There have been moments in which I have doubted if the light was still present within me. Yet, in the deepest part of my knowing, I somehow have always trusted its presence. As I am revisiting places and defining moments of my past, I recall the twenty year voyage to heal my body and my very visceral struggle to regain my confidence, my trust, my wellness, my way, my light. The physical syllabus that life has required has taught through repeated trial by fire that my body is my greatest guide.

I do often wonder why it has taken over 20 years to finally realize these teachings, integrate lessons learned and fully live them. I resisted what cancer wanted to impart in me for decades, but my body has been relentless in driving home the point that we need to slow down and listen within. What I did not learn from thyroid cancer at age 21 has been revisited through a long laundry list of physical challenges. I have been granted this gift of life and, if I do not care for my vessel, she rebels and gets sick. How I react and act when that happens determines what happens next. When I eat well, meditate, eliminate stress and focus on people, places and things that feed my wellness, I am shown the way to health, love, connection, truth and service. My body is my most revered teacher. She is my compass. When I honor and listen to her, she shows me my true strength, the direction forward and an undying light. (Thank you to my new friend, @fitter_healthier_stronger for making me reflect on #whatcancertaughtme.)
