For twenty years, I have dreamt of writing a book about what I had learned from cancer and chronic illness. I would start and stop. I gave it a good go a decade ago, writing with some dedication when I had my preventive double mastectomy. The timing was not right. Telling the story 10 years ago was premature. As I am now single digit pages away from a complete draft, I know I had to live what I wanted to express through to the other side. I had to make peace with the trauma before I could share this piece of myself. Last Cut was inspired by another surgery, but quickly paved way for conversation about each of our paths to living a life reflective of our truth. I am now so grateful that the words and healing are flowing.

And even when the writing was challenging, I stayed. In the presence of the details, both beautiful and disgusting, I recalled the ever-present capability of seeing myself through anything.

From the heart to the page.
